Hello! My name is Emma Wang, and I am a Grade 11 student at York Mills Collegiate Institute. Driven by our passion for STEM, Catherine Nguyen and I have co-founded the Youth STEM Collective!
Throughout my life, I have always been deeply curious about the technical ways the world works. To this day, I constantly find myself asking: “Why?” and “How?” Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are more than just compulsory high school credits to me; they define the way I think and understand the world. In my future, I plan on pursuing a career in mathematics or computer science, applying my problem-solving skills to real-world challenges and technological innovation.
Along this journey, I have realized that beyond competitions and research projects, there is a significant gap in accessible STEM opportunities. This insight ultimately led to the creation of YSC!
A note to my younger self is: Put yourself out there because no one cares (in a good way). Closed mouths do not get fed.
Thank you so much for showing interest in our program, and I look forward to connecting with you!

Hi everyone! My name is Catherine Nguyen, and I am a Grade 11 student at York Mills Collegiate Institute. I am the co-founder of YSC, working alongside with Emma Wang!
I was first introduced to STEM in Grade 10, and it quickly became more than just science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to me. It gave me the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world situations, strengthening my critical thinking and problem-solving skills while deepening my understanding of the world around me. STEM has not only given me experience of different ways to approach my learning with, but also taught me to think outside the box.
I aspire to pursue a career in the medical field, where I hope to make a meaningful impact by helping others. This passion inspired me to co-create a youth-led organization that encourages younger students to explore STEM early and discover their potential.
A note to younger me would be: Failing does not identify you as a failure. The only real failure is never trying. Every attempt is progress.
I look forward to meeting everyone who is interested in our program and eager to learn!
